Family Environment

We are a family of five humans, one Swiss Mountain dog, and a lot of lavender.

Our acreage of 7 acres is in Kelowna in the lovely Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada.

The Okanagan south of Kelowna has a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cool winters. The average daytime temperature is perfect for growing lavender.

Cultivating the land and taking care of the lavender is a family affair.

Passing on the tradition to our children and family friends makes the lavender season more enjoyable.

Every year we welcome volunteers into our family to exchange knowledge and help us with the harvest.

Highly sustainable crop

Lavender is a shrub that requires small quantities of water. To preserve this precious asset as much as possible, we use drip irrigation, avoiding water waste by spraying water on the plants.

We use 100% natural helpers to protect lavender from insects: praying mantises are excellent field friends, and keeping down bug populations naturally helps maintain a healthy ecological balance in the field.

No pesticides are sprayed on the plants.

Due to our way of working and by not importing any part of our product we are moving closer to our goal of achieved net-zero emissions.

The lack of pesticides provides a healthy environment for our bee populations.

We observe the same respect we place in treating lavender with our workers: loving working conditions transmit love to lavender.

Lavandula Intermedia

Born out of the Okanagan’s sandy loam soil, Sunny Kelowna Lavender specialises in the growth of quality lavender for the creation of natural fragrances, perfumes and the trade of high-quality essential oils.

An appreciation for our planet’s natural gifts, coupled with Canadian excellence, has remained a vital resource for the Sunny Kelowna Lavender Farm, who take pride in our work. Whether for the cosmetic, home care, or food science industries, our in-house controls allow us to provide a quality product.

Kelowna is located in Canadian plant hardiness Region 2, Zone 6a. On average, Kelowna’s frost-free growing season is May to the beginning of October, totaling 160 days. Our cultivar was especially selected for its ability to be used in high quality products and for its yield.  Using essential oil yield as an alternative measure of productivity the Grosso cultivar (L. intermedia) displays a high essential oil yield, at 34 mg/g FW. Grosso cultivars tend to be more prolific than other cultivars.
